Flying a Drone in Controlled Airspace, say near an airport, even as a hobbyist INSTANTLY using LAANC and Kittyhawk is possible because of the newly improved process from the FAA, upgrading the LAANC system to include even Recreational Pilots Authorization! The Kittyhawk application has come a long way and they have also attacked B4UFly to try and educate pilots about where to fly legally. I do a quick rundown on authorization process and the good, bad and so-so of the application itself. So for the moment taking the DJI Mavic Pro out has never been easier. Not sure how long this will be available as with the Remote ID Proposed rules the tenor from the FAA has changed considerably recently and it seems like they are pushing hard to make drones illegal anywhere including near an airport and add to the untrue but sad stigma, that bad people buy drones, are malicious and only want to endanger the public. A lot of educational videos I put out aims to guide those who simply don’t know certain things about piloting a drone under the premise that simply a lack of information can lead to accidents or injury, not only malicious intent, so I hope these help you become a better, more informed and safer drone pilot. I love this hobby and proud to be a contributing member to the community. Flying in controlled airspace, legally mind you, not trying to hide in the bushes and feeling like some deviant, being happy to engage curious onlookers with education backed up with a part 107 licenses bearing the stamp of the FAA is not what I expected a year ago when I picked up my first drone. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of things that feel like over-reach, but that being said there’s a lot that IS being done right AND it could be a lot worse. Good Flying! Captain
